The survey was conducted as a module to the second quarter of the Labour Force Survey, 2004 (April- June, 2004) during the last nine weeks of the quarter.\nIn September 1995 PCBS began conducting household labour force surveys on a periodical basis. The main objective of collecting data on the labour force and its components, including employment, unemployment and underemployment, is to provide basic information on the size and structure of the Palestinian labour force. Data collected at different points in time provide a basis for monitoring current trends, changes in the labour market and in the employment situation. These data, supported with information on other aspects of the economy, provide a basis for the evaluation and analysis of macro-economic policies."},"version_statement":{"version":"Version 1.0 dataset for public distribution","version_date":"2013-11-20"},"study_info":{"keywords":[{"keyword":"Occupation","vocab":"Glossary of Statistical","uri":"http:\/\/www.pcbs.gov.ps\/Downloads\/book1117.pdf"},{"keyword":"Economically active population","vocab":"Glossary of Statistical","uri":"http:\/\/www.pcbs.gov.ps\/Downloads\/book1117.pdf"}],"topics":[{"topic":"working conditions [3.6]","vocab":"CESSDA","uri":"http:\/\/www.nesstar.org\/rdf\/common"}],"abstract":"The main objective of collecting data on Work Conditions is to provide basic information on the employment characteristics of the Palestinian labour in both public and private sectors, and workers in Israel and Israeli settlements, in the different economic activities such as: health conditions at work, working in high places, working with sharp implements, and dangerous chemical and flammable materials.","time_periods":[{"start":"2004-05-02","end":"2004-07-01","cycle":"Q2"}],"coll_dates":[{"start":"2004-05-02","end":"2004-07-01","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Palestine","abbreviation":"PSE"}],"geog_coverage":"The Data are representative at region level (West Bank, Gaza Strip), locality type (urban, rural, camp) and governorates","analysis_unit":"Household, individual","universe":"The survey covered all the Palestinian households who are a usual residence in Palestine","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]","notes":"The questionnaire represents the main instrument for data collection The questionnaire on work conditions was designed according to International Labour Organization recommendations with respect to privacy issues in Palestinian society, in addition to local experts recommendations, and in order to achieve the technical requirements for the field work stage and for data processing, and using the most beneficial references:\nPalestinian Work Condition Survey that was conducted in 1997.\nWork Conditions Survey in Turkey.\nILO publications related to this topic, and the methodology which was reliable in conducting the survey. \n\nIdentification Data:\nThe main objective for this part is to record the necessary information to identify the household, such as, cluster code, sector, type of locality, cell, housing number and the cell code.\n\nQuality Control:\nThis part involves groups of controlling standards to monitor the field and office operation, to keep in order the sequence of questionnaire stages (data collection, field and office coding, data entry, editing after entry and store the data.\n\nHousehold Roster:\nThis part involves demographic characteristics about the household, like number of persons in the household, date of birth, sex, educational level\u2026etc.\n\nEmployment Part:\nThis part involves the major research indicators, where one questionnaire had been answered by every 10 years and over household member, to be able to explore their labour force status and recognize their major characteristics toward employment status, economic activity, occupation, place of work, and other employment indicators."},"method":{"data_collection":{"data_collectors":[{"name":"Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics","abbreviation":"PCBS","affiliation":"Palestinian National Authority"}],"sampling_procedure":"4.2 Sampling Frame \nThe sample in the survey is a two-stage stratified cluster random sample.\n\nTarget Population:\nThe target population: consisted of all Employed Persons aged 15 years and over, who worked in the reference period, and living in the Palestinian Territories, excluding nomads and persons living in institutions such as prisons or shelters.\n\nFrame:\nThe sampling frame consisted of a master sample of enumeration areas (EAs) selected from the Population, Housing and Establishment Census (1997). The master sample consists of area units of relatively equal size (number of households); these units have been used as primary sampling units (PSUs).\n\nSample Design:\nThe sample is a two-stage stratified cluster random sample. The first stage was the selection of a stratified sample of 481 enumeration areas. \n\nThe second stage sampling units are households.\n\n\nStratification:\nFour levels of stratification have been made:\nStratification by District.\nStratification by place of residence which comprises: \n(a) Municipalities\t (b) Villages (c) Refugee Camps \nStratification by locality size.\nStratification by cell identification in that order.\n\nSample Size:\nThe sample size is about 5,239 households, allowing for non-response and related losses of about 12% with respect to the sample size. The sample size of this survey based on 4,055 employees in both public and private sectors, 3,567 employees interviewed (complete cases) in order to represent the Palestinian society and statistical estimation about work condition indicators. Two training courses were held, one in Ramallah for West Bank trainees, and one in Gaza City for Gaza Strip trainees.
