The main objectives of the census are: To collect data on the distribution of establishments by economic activity and governorates. To provide data on employment size in the establishments by economic activity and sex. To provide data on the characteristics of the establishments in the Remaining West Bank and Gaza Strip such as: economic organization, legal status and ownership. Part two: Data about operating establishments: ·Economic activity ·Ownership ·Economic organization ·Legal status ·Year of establishment ·Persons engaged Financial statements 4.6.2 Fieldwork Organization The Palestinian Territory have been divided into 16 governorates, namely: Jenin, Tubas, Tulkarm, Nablus, Qalqilya, Salfit, Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Jericho and Al-Aghwar, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Hebron, North Gaza, Gaza, Deir Al-Balah, Khan Yunis, and Rafah. The number of localities in all governorates was 558 localities, including 525 localities in the West Bank, and 33 localities in Gaza Strip. These localities were divided into 4,916 enumeration areas including 3,286 enumeration areas in the Remaining West Bank, and 1,630 enumeration areas in Gaza Strip. In the second phase of the census there were 1,228 people, distributed as 36 governorate directors and assistants, 218 supervisors, 974 crew leaders. 4.6.3 Updating and Data Collection The data was collected from establishments through personal interview by the crew leaders working in the 2007 census. Establishments register on existing economic institutions from the 2004 census were updated during the filed work of the 2007 census, where the crew leaders should review the records of enumeration area on establishments which were numbered on the ground on the 2007 census questionnaires, then he will take one of the two actions: if he found the establishment was registered; he will update the data in the questionnaires, or if the establishment is not registered, then he must record it at the end of questionnaire. not applicable 4.8 Data Processing Access was used for data entry; data entry was organized in a number of files, corresponding to the main parts of the questionnaire. A data entry template was designed to reflect an exact image of the questionnaire, and included various electronic checks: logical check, consistency checks and cross-validation. Continuously thorough checks on the overall consistency of the data files were made. Data editing and checking processes were initiated simultaneously with the data entry which was began in 04/12/2007 - 05/02/2008. Thorough data quality checks and consistency checks were carried out.
